Mentoring
My mentoring package builds on my tean years of experience as a leader in Public Engagement, I have mentored over 30 public engagement professionals (PEPs), and academics with EDI and Engagement remits.
My style is one of asking questions and listening, guiding you through your reflective practice, rather than simply “give you an answer”. This, together with my knowledge of the sector, and own experience, provides mentees a space to reflect on your practice, encourage you to problem solve and develop your longer-term career plans.

The meetings can also be used for 1-1 training on topics such as:
-
Project Management.
-
Evaluation.
-
Listening and Empathy.
-
Talking through university (or other systematic) processes.
-
Navigating politics.
-
Working on a funding bid.
-
Working on an engagement project / event.
This package is ideal for:
-
Public Engagement Professionals in either central or departmental roles who are being line managed by academics with limited professional service experience.
-
Other culture change professionals (including EDI, Impact and Knowledge Exchange professionals) in universities, national funders or members organisations.
-
Academics leading on a a culture change remit (such as PE, Outreach, EDI, Impact and Knowledge Exchange) within a faculty / department / research group.

The starting annual mentorship package includes:
-
One initial free online 30 min chat to see if we have chemistry. This is carried out before the package formally starts, and is free of charge. If the chemistry isn’t there, or my experience doesn’t match what they are looking for, I’m happy to refer to other freelance colleagues offering similar services.
-
Six online hour long chats. I recommend having these chats every 6-8 weeks, allowing enough time for agreed actions and reflection. Each chat also includes an additional half hour of my time to write notes from the chats, write some reflections and catch-up on previous chats.
-
Two hours of research / looking over proposals / strategies / facilitating. This can be used throughout the year if you are working on a specific project and needs some more direct support and advice. If not used it can switch to an additional chat.
-
One final 30 min chat that brings together conversation and helps you prepare for what next. This comes with the standard half hour preparation time.
-
Overall administration time (E-mails, calendars) over the period.
Notes will be kept on a shared Word document.
The package is for two days of my time and comes to £1,300. It can be altered depending on your needs, and fitted around any project timelines you may have.

I am also happy to take on a small cohort within an Institute.
Please note, the package is for informal mentoring, and not career coaching. However, a few mentees have found that mentoring helps them decide on what sort of formal career coaching they may need next to further their careers.
